Putting bugs in a jar, what kid wouldn't love this?!?!  I gave them bug catchers (clothespins) that they had to pick the bugs up with (I'm sneaky with my fine motor work!)The boys at this station today said the bugs were poisonous!

Unifex cube towers! Student put the mats in order, then built away!

Parquet block creation - free choice or I provided mats!
 Printable Princess writing numerals!

Farm Week: Oh Lovely Mud!

Tomorrow starts our FARM week!  I am excited about this week!  I have a TON of stuff planned, the kids are going to be "farmed out!"  So here we go!

Monday - I am dressing up like Mrs. Wishy Washy - slippers and all!  I am totally going to embarrass my OWN boys when I drop them off wearing slippers, an apron and a do rag, but that is what Moms do, right?!?  So for reading, we are going to brainstorm different farm animals and write them down on a web.  We will graph our favorite farm animal on this adorable barn I made!

Then I will read Mrs. Wishy Washy, I have small plastic animals and we will make them muddy and wash them in a tub, just like Mrs. Wishy Washy!  We will then draw a picture of what we would do if Mrs. Wishy Washy made us take a bath.  I bought Mrs. Bremer's Wishy Washy Packet, lemme tell ya, it is amaze-balls.  If you are doing Mrs. Wishy Washy anytime soon, this is a great packet for your kinders - money well spent, IMO!

For Math we are reviewing tens frames and beginning addition.  We will discuss what the "plus" sign means and make an addition anchor chart:

We will make this addition anchor chart:

We will "act out" farm addition story problems using my sons farm animals!

The kids will be using a barn as a math mat and moving farm animals to show me the sum.  Here's your freebie Barn math mat!

For Tier 2/3 time we will be doing farm animal study, Monday will be PIGS! Woot!  I made this cutie-patootie chart for recording!  YES, I know the head is small compared to the body, but I gotta have room to write!  We will all get our hands in brown pant and put mud all over this piggy!  #ilovemesses
Tuesday
Reading we will reread Mrs. Wishy Washy and this story map from Mrs. Bremer's packet (seriously ya'll, go get this!)

For Math we will be focusing on the number 3 and making a "Story of 3" anchor chart.  Just like the story of 2 above!  We will revisit our "ballpit" tens frames:

For Tier 2/3 time we will continue our Farm animal study with horses.  I will make a horse anchor chart and the students will illustrate a horse and four things they learned! If we have time we are SO making this:

Wednesday
We will play with mud and make our own mud!  Yep, we are gonna get down and dirty!  As I am typing this I am thinking that I MAY wanna tell the parents to send an extra outfit for their sweet nugget :)  Anywho, we will do a Venn Diagram of read mud versus our pudding mud.  Oh Lovely Mud! I got this idea from Mrs. Wood's Kindergarten!

For Math we will continue with addition and make a "Story of 5" anchor chart.  I will bust out my Math hula hoop and show them all the different ways to make the number 5.

larger version of a number bracelet using a hula hoop and pool noodles ...

For Tier 2/3 time we will learn all about ducks! We will read a nonfiction book about Ducks and write down all the facts we learned.

Thursday
We will do a kindergarten version of "Readers theater" with the book Mrs. Wishy Washy.  The students will get into group of five and make a setting using big butcher paper.  They will be assigned their part and begin practicing.  There are some cute little reader's theater headbands for FREE here

For Math we will continue focusing on beginning addition!  We will do more hands on work using a cow math mat and black beans for the cows spots!

Students draw pictures inside the cow of foods that are made from milk (dairy products). Use this worksheet as a part of the following lesson plan...

We will then illustrate a farm animal addition sentence and make a cute barn!

farm animal addition/ number sentence

For Tier 2/3 time we will study the COW! We will read a book and watch a video about "A Cows Life" and write down (on sentence strips)
what we learned onto this adorable cow! Don't you just LOVE the kids handprints??? "Udderly" fantastic! (I am NO good a jokes, but I just HAD to......)

Then we will make this moo-rific cow!
Super cute cow craft from Kindergarten Rocks! This would make a great activity to go with Clare Beaton's Cow in the Cabbage Patch.

Friday

It's Readers Theater Time!  The kids will put on their "show!" This will be SO much fun for the kiddos!!!  We MAY make this adorable farm, but, of course using the characters in the story!

Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas: The Big Red Barn & Handprint Farm Animals

In Math we will use animal crackers on tub mats to do some more addition practice!!!

Mrs. Wishy Washy at The Virtual Vine

Tier 2/3 time we will focus on sheeps and make another anchor chart about what we learned!  we could create these animals and have students write descriptive words for each animal. Then they could use these ideas for a far story for Writer's Workshop. We have been working on adding descriptive words as we edit , revise and rewrite.

We will also make our own sheep using bubble wrap:

Color Week

Tomorrow starts our COLOR week!  Last week I wrote a note home asking all the parents to work with their child on finding items around their home in various colors. For morning meeting time, I am going to let the students sort their items out and place them on the correct colored sheet.  It will look similar to this example:
We will read the book Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes, seriously, if you haven't read this book - you are TRULY missing out!  I LOVE me some Pete the Cat!  My students will be PUMPED to read this book, since we read Rocking in My School Shoes the first week of school!
Title: Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes

After we finish reading this book we will make a class graph of our favorite colors.  Once this graph is completed, we will use this FREEBIE from my tPt store and manipulate the words to make the sentence, I like (favorite color word) and draw a picture.

In Math we will read The Button Box and I will pass out a BUNCH of buttons and let my sweet nuggets sort anyway they want to.  They will share how they sorted.

We will also review counting and writing our numerals 0-10.

In the Tier 2/3 time we will be focusing on the color word "red" so we will read Clifford the Big Red Dog.  We will make this craft and write the word red with our Scentos markers - they love Scentos!

This idea is from one of my favorite blogs, Chalk Talk.

Tuesday
For Morning Meeting time we will play Dr. Jeans Color Farm song.  Have ya'll played Color Farm before??? Um, fantabulous!  So catchy, the kids love it. After the song is played I will give each student a color word label to wear and they have to find their "partner" with the same color word!  They will, of course, have to greet one another!

For Reading we will Read Brown Bear, Brown Brown by Eric Carle.  I found this great painting activity on Julie Lee's Blog!  Looked too fun to pass up. I will partner the sweet nuggets up and they
will paint away! Once it is dry, we will use it to match the characters, label the color sections, and to retell the story.

In Math we will discuss plane shapes and have a magazine scavenger hunt to find the shapes!!  Messy, fun anchor chart making party!

On Wednesday we will use M&M's to help us with our morning meeting, how amazing is this idea?!?? We may change it up a bit, using favorites (food, color, movie, etc.)
This is a great idea! I am going to use them as an ice breaker with my new year 10’s.
For Reading, we will reread Brown Bear, Brown Bear and do a coloring sequence.  We will also start making our own book using this FREEBIE from my tPt store!  Go grab ya one!  I will pull kids up in groups to practice reading these books with me.  Yes, guided reading is gonna happen this week!  Woot!

In Math, we will read Goldilocks and the Three Bears and discuss sorting by Size.  We will talk about all the different words the mean "size" and make an anchor chart.  We will then do a small, medium, large sort that I got from here.

During Tier 2/3 time we read Mouse Paint and do a color blending activity!  It's gonna be fun!
Non Messy Mouse Paint Activity! I used a mixture of shaving cream and glue to help thicken it, paper plates, red, yellow & blue paint, and ziploc baggies. We used the ziploc bags to make it non messy! The kiddos loved it! While they were mixing the colors, they also made shapes and wrote their names! :)

There's also a FREEBIE by Katie Mense we may do in addition to the paper plate mixing, you can find that here! Give her some love once you download it!

Mixing Colors-Mouse Paint-Rainbow Unit Activity

Mrs. Morrow's Kindergarten: Beginning of the Year Fun!On Thursday we will reread Brown Bear, Brown Bear and do Readers Theater with the sweet nuggets.

During Tier 2/3 time we will reread Mouse paint and make this cutie craft!

Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh. Mouse tear art and painting project.

I also plan on bringing in some ice cubes colored with food coloring and letting the kiddo's see how the colors melt and make new colors!

On Friday we will read Go Away Big Green Monster.  We will make our own monsters based on our favorite colors!  You can get the words the mixed up words I am using from my tPt store, just give me some love ya'll!  Here ya go!

In Math we will do a M&M sort according to color.  Can't go wrong with mixing Math with eating, am I right?!?

During Tier 2/3 time we will read Glad Monster, Sad Monster Glad Monster, Sad Monster by Anne Miranda and Ed Emberley I couldn't read JUST one Ed Emberley book!  Glad Monster, Sad Monster is an awesome book about feelings!  The sweet nuggets will write a color word and draw a picture to go along with the word.  We will HAVE to share these!  This is another cute activity we MAY just HAVE to do!

I think I will be making the "Tired" Monster - how about you?!
